Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1
Follow the steps below...

Step 2
Open the lid on the AED and start following the visual and voice prompts.

Step 3
Check the responsiveness of the patient by shouting, Are You Okay?

Step 4
Call or send someone for help.

Step 5
Lift the chin of the patient and tilt the head back. Open the airway of the patient and check for breathing.

Step 6
Check the circulation of the patient. If signs of circulation are absent, then defibrillation is necessary.

Step 7
Press the electrodes firmly in place on the patient.

Step 8
Stay clear of the patient and advise anyone nearby to do the same.

Step 9
If the audio prompt indicates that defibrillation is advised, press the treatment button to deliver a shock.*

Step 10
If there is still no circulation, administer compression to the patient.

Step 11
If additional defibrillation is not needed, then administer CPR until emergency medical personnel arrive.

*Step 8 Repeat this and the previous step until the unit no longer prompts you to deliver a shock.
