The Yellow Card is an official confirmation compulsory for international travellers from risk countries like Nigeria as evidence the carrier is vaccinated against Yellow Fever.

Most African countries including Nigeria require proof of yellow fever vaccination when travelling from a country with risk of yellow fever.

The old yellow card which is replaced with the new eYellow Card is highly secured and globally accepted.

The steps were described as follows:

"STEP 1: Visit http://www.yellowcard.health.gov.ng or http://www.yellowcardnigeria.com

"STEP 2: click on Yellow Card Application.

"STEP 3: Fill in your personal information and click on submit button.

"STEP 4: Click on Payment button, generate your Remita Retrival Receipt (RRR) code and pay the sum of N2,000 online (or go to the bank).

"STEP 5: Take the payment receipt along with your international passport to any Port Health Services Office to get vaccinated and obtain the yellow card."

Lagos active Port Health Services Office

There are different yellow fever vaccination centers in Nigeria, but if you are in Lagos, locate the Ministry of Health, PORT Health office. It is located just before the Airport Toll Gate Ikeja, the closest building by your left.

Please go to the place as early as possible, 6:30am. There a lot of crowd.

Alternatively, Go to Apapa Tin Island Port Health office. (Collect in 10 minutes) – You can go through CMS to board ferry to Apapa jetty within 5 minutes. Then take a bike to Tincan Island N200. Ask for port health office. You will be attended to within a short time and most likely collect same day unlike Ikeja.

Ensure you make a photocopy of the data page of your International Passport. This shouldn’t cost you more than N10. But if you fail to do this before getting to the airport, be ready to pay a N100 naira to get this done.

The new platform requires that payment should be made via REMITA. It costs N2000 Naira. You can make this payment yourself before coming to the Airport, or risk paying a service charge of N500.

Once you have taken the yellow fever injection and probably the polio vaccine (this depends on whether the country you are going to requires it), you will be advised to go and sit down and wait to be called for your yellow card. I suggest that you do as advised, because, it would take 24hrs.

There are a number of side effects of this vaccine; less serious side effects could include low fever, mild headache, general ill feeling, mild rash, muscle pain, joint pain, body aches, tenderness, swelling, or a lump where the shot was given. This may occur within 5 – 10 days. I can’t give any advice or share any experience about the side effects at the moment because I just took mine a few hours ago. But you are advised to visit a Doctor if side effects are severe or if they linger.

PS: I suggest you take water and snack along with you, so you don’t get so hungry while you wait.

The current vaccine given is for a lifetime. So once you get this, you do not need to take another one ever again. You can always go back to them for card replacement if yours gets lost.

You can also get it at Idi iroko, Seme boarder.

Yellow fever is transmitted through insect bite but there’s a vaccine that prevents it. Yellow fever vaccine is available in the ministry of health. It can protect you for at least 10 years. Get your yellow card today

There is no person-to-person transmission of #YellowFever. It is transmitted from an infected mosquito to a human. It is a completely vaccine preventable disease and a single shot provides immunity for a lifetime.

Key Facts About Yellow Fever

1. Yellow fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes. The “yellow” in the name refers to the jaundice that affects some patients.

2. Symptoms of yellow fever include fever, headache, jaundice, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting and fatigue.

3. A small proportion of patients who contract the virus develop severe symptoms and approximately half of those die within 7 to 10 days.

4. The virus is endemic in tropical areas of Africa and Central and South America.

5. Large epidemics of yellow fever occur when infected people introduce the virus into heavily populated areas with high mosquito density and where most people have little or no immunity, due to lack of vaccination. In these conditions, infected mosquitoes of the Aedes aegypti specie transmit the virus from person to person.

6. Yellow fever is prevented by an extremely effective vaccine, which is safe and affordable. A single dose of yellow fever vaccine is sufficient to confer sustained immunity and life-long protection against yellow fever disease. A booster dose of the vaccine is not needed. The vaccine provides effective immunity within 10 days for 80-100% of people vaccinated, and within 30 days for more than 99% of people vaccinated.

7. Good supportive treatment in hospitals improves survival rates. There is currently no specific anti-viral drug for yellow fever.

8. The Eliminate Yellow fever Epidemics (EYE) Strategy launched in 2017 is an unprecedented initiative. With more than 50 partners involved, the EYE partnership supports 40 at-risk countries in Africa and the Americas to prevent, detect, and respond to yellow fever suspected cases and outbreaks. The partnership aims at protecting at-risk populations, preventing international spread, and containing outbreaks rapidly. By 2026, it is expected that more than 1 billion people will be protected against the disease.
