Nigeria Nurses Deserve Better Working Condition

Unread post by Sister Nadi »

Nigerians are at home while health care workers on 5,000 hazard allowance are working with difficulty and harassment from some over zealous law enforcement agents who thinks we that don't have homes & family to stay with.

Outside covid-19 that is new, there are a lot of infectious diseases eg HIV/AIDS, Hemorrhagic fever like Lassa fever that is endemic in our Nation,Hepatitis ,Tuberculosis, meningitis, German measles, chickenpox the list is endless.

Nurses are foremost in the front line of health care workers, followed by Doctors, Lab scientist, Cleaners and Waste managers.
Government and policy makers at all levels should as a matter of urgency move for the increase of health workers hazard allowances with the Nurses having a greater share.

The Nurses can't maintain social distancing while bathing, feeding, delivering babies, administering medication & oxygen, suctioning ill ones to clear their air ways etc.
Nurses even sleep on chairs / benches in some facilities amongst patients irrespective of their diagnosis & working under very inhuman conditions.
Some government hospitals are "Fair" but most of them are terrible because they are managed by OGA'S who are not interested in staff welfare

During the day, administrative blocks in the hospital will have light from generators & other areas will be left out with Nurses & patients sweating it out, at night nurses take delivery with their phone touch. When a drug is not available, a Doctor is not on ground to see the patient, no light, water or oxygen patients and relations transfer their aggression on the Nurses who they see👀. The Nurses are often abused & assaulted for the health care system failure.

Nurses on night duty are entitled to two hours break period to refresh and avoid mistakes in the line of duty. In Nigeria we build large hospital wards with the end users(Nurses ) not invited for her input at the end you're told to manage it and appreciate management efforts and without a room for Nurses to observe break so they sleep on chairs/ benches.
No bathrooms to clean up before going home to your family even after nursing an infections patient.

Yet the whole world except Nigeria Nurses to be happy and give their best at all time even when assaulted by patient relations who feel they have Right.

When a doctor who is on call and paid call duty allowance is not around to see patient, the Nurses have to call them from wherever, if he fails to show up and anything goes wrong a panel is set and you hear " when the doctor didn't come on time why didn't you call the next person on the call roster.""

Who calls the Nurse to come to work???. She bears the burnt at any given situations

Most of you come to us in a combatant mood, we are not the cause of whatever problem

Covid-19 is killing in advanced countries of the world and government is saying stay at home, wear face mask, wash your hands, maintain social distancing to reduce the impact on us we are not complying that government has not provided, but we work without materials for you unappreciated.
Please obey basic precautions now for yourself & family as prevention is better and safer than treatment.

You insult us and leave your relations with us and we still care for them.

Most people condemn us here, travel abroad and study nursing WHY?

How many of your relations/children abroad will come & practice nursing here with all the hostility?

You that is always condemning us,you can't take the shit you give us nor work in this country as a Nurse

Dear Nigerians,

WE SHOULD STOP PAYING CERTIFICATE IN ALL THINGS. After basic salary that is stratified, other allowances should be based on work output.
Enough of "monkey dey work bambo dey chop."

Nigeria Nurses deserve:
Better working condition

Comfortable break rooms

Better remunerations

The highest hazard allowance.

Your love & Respect

Now that the pandemic has exposed the weakness of Nigeria health care system, as Nurses we hope some positive changes will take place for the health workers and patients (who can be anybody) to be cared for in a conducive atmosphere.
The time for us to cry out and place a demand on our leaders at various levels is NOW for a better health care delivery system in Nigeria.

Adejoh Samuel write:

It baffles me when the Federal Government decided to pay volunteers alone as front line managers in the treatment of COVID 19.

Many of us managing the emergency room are more at risk than those working at the isolation ward. Someone may work into the ER with complain of headache and it will later turn to be COVID 19 or any of the hemorrhagic fever. As we speak two of my friends that i know are quarantine yet they are not front line managers. All the Nurses and Doctors working at the isolation unit know fully well that only confirm cases comes into their unit so they are ever ready. Look at what happened at Ayinke house in Lagos, delivery, how a pregnant woman tested positive and over four nurses quarantined yet they are not front line managers.

I want to let the Federal Government to know that all the health workers are front liners. Federal Government should look into the HAZARD ALLOWANCE of five thousand Naira (N5000) that they are paying us, it very very bad and appalling after facing all these ailment.

The honourable minister of health is a disgrace to the ministry to say that he is not aware of our hazard allowance, SHAME TO HIM. SGF,Boss Mustapha

I pray that your submission should not be political. Health personnel especially Nurses are not respected by the Federal Government at all and so they are the least paid in the health sector, that`s too bad despite the fact that Nurses spent all their time with the patients 24/7. Finally, i urge the Federal Government to look into the Nurses remuneration and accord them with respect.

I pray that the almighty God will deliver us from the spirit of coronary virus so that we can regain our freedom.
